Open & Affirming Anniversary Celebration
In May of 2010, our faith community of Glenview Community Church committed to becoming an Open and Affirming (ONA) church. ONA is an official designation of the United Church of Christ “affirming the full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and non-binary persons (LGBTQ+) in the church’s life and ministry.” What does ONA mean to Glenview Community Church (GCC)? It means that GCC embraces the entirety of the LGBTQ+ community and welcomes all to be a part of our ministry. Here people are encouraged to rejoice in who they are without reservation. All God’s people are welcome here. This church year we experienced several opportunities to welcome, support, and better understand the challenges and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community. Now we invite all church members, their friends, and neighbors to attend Open and Affirming Celebration Sunday on May 15. There will be a special service focusing on education and acceptance, including a puppet show and special music.
Following the service, there will be a festive spring luncheon featuring sandwiches, fruit, dessert, and a short program in the Community Room. The luncheon cost is $10 with a maximum of $40 for a family.
Our LGBTQ+ siblings continue to be under attack physically, emotionally, and politically, which is dehumanizing and has taken a great toll on the quality of their lives. Please join us as we honor the LGBTQ+ community and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to their well-being and just treatment in all facets of our society.
Please join us for the service at 10:00am on Sunday, May 15 register for the luncheon via Sign-up Genius.
