Megan Bang, Ph.D.

Megan Bang, Ph.D. (Ojibwe and Italian), is the James E. Johnson Professor of the Learning Sciences at Northwestern University and former Director of its Center for Native American and Indigenous Research. Her scholarship examines human learning and development across the life course in relation to the natural world, with particular attention to the questions of learning and decision-making at the heart of climate change, adaptation, and sustainability. Much of her work considers how settler-colonialism and racial capitalism have shaped relations between humans and the rest of the living world, and how Indigenous communities sustain forms of intergenerational education and cultural regeneration that cultivate communal and planetary wellbeing. Widely published across leading journals and the author of several books, Bang is a member of the National Academy of Education and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a fellow of the American Educational Research Association and the International Society of the Learning Sciences, and a board member of the MacArthur Foundation. She believes that learning to live well together, and sustainably, is our most important responsibility.
