Emily Oster, Ph.D.
Esposito Family Goldman Sachs University Professor of Economics at Brown University and Founder and CEO of ParentData
Emily Oster, Ph.D., is the Esposito Family Goldman Sachs University Professor of Economics at Brown University, where her research focuses on health and statistical methods, as well as educational recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. She is also the founder and CEO of ParentData, a data-driven guide to pregnancy, parenting, and beyond, whose weekly newsletter has hundreds of thousands of subscribers.
Inspired by her own pregnancy and the lack of clear information to guide her decisions, from prenatal testing to induction, Oster turned her economist’s tools to the data on pregnancy and parenting and wrote a book to help other parents navigate those choices. Her New York Times bestselling books include Expecting Better, Cribsheet, The Family Firm, and, most recently, The Unexpected. She is the co-creator and co-host of the podcast Wellness Actually, and she earned her bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in economics at Harvard University.
