Beth Arey is the College and Career Services Coordinator at Evanston Township High School D202 in Evanston, IL. She has held a variety of roles in secondary and post-secondary education, including positions at Saint Rita of Cascia College Preparatory High School, the University of Michigan, Lewis University, and Northwestern University.
Guided by a commitment to awareness, access, and success for all students, Arey works to help even the youngest students envision what’s possible and supports them to achieve their goals. At ETHS, she has expanded college and career programming across all grade levels, extended services to weekends and summer months, eliminated the negative stress of class rank, and strengthened access to rigorous coursework.
Arey’s leadership extends beyond ETHS. She has served as High School Director for the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC) and as Chair of the College Board Midwestern Regional Council. Her professional service also includes participation on the NCAA High School Advisory Group, the Coalition for College Access, Affordability, and Success Counselor Community, as well as several College Board, IACAC, and NACAC committees. She has also contributed locally as a board member for Evanston Scholars and university counselor advisory boards for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Northern Illinois University.
A national voice in equitable college advising, Arey has collaborated with the National Postsecondary Strategy Institute to advance ETHS’s goal that 100% of students graduate with a post-high school plan. She is a sought-after speaker and contributor, with features including NPR’s All Things Considered and Education Reform Now’s College Advising Post-SFFA.
Arey earned her M.A. in School Counseling and her B.A. in English/Secondary Education from Lewis University.
