Mary C. Commerford, Ph.D.
Clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst
Mary C. Commerford, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst with over 30 years of clinical experience. Her specialties include college mental health, life transitions and crises, eating disorders, and spirituality. She worked in college counseling for 27 years and spent 21 years as the director of the counseling center at Barnard College in New York City.
Commerford’s interest in spirituality is lifelong — majoring in religious studies and philosophy at University of Notre Dame, training in ministry at Yale University Divinity School, and working as a chaplain before shifting into clinical psychology. She has been a member of a meditation community for over 40 years. She currently has a private practice and teaches at Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center, an analytic training institute, in New York City.
