Mary Claire Haver, MD
Board-certified OB/GYN, founder of The 'Pause Wellness, and #1 New York Times bestselling author
Mary Claire Haver, MD, is a board-certified OB/GYN, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist, and a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner. She is the founder of The ‘Pause Wellness, a private medical practice dedicated to the care of women in midlife, and the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The New Menopause and The Galveston Diet.
Haver graduated from Louisiana State University Medical Center and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), where she served as a clinical professor and associate residency director. She currently holds an appointment as adjunct associate professor at UTMB.
As her patient population aged, Haver began fielding a steady stream of concerns about weight gain during menopause — prompting a deep dive into the science of menopause, aging, and inflammation that led to the creation of The Galveston Diet, the first nutrition program designed by a female OB/GYN specifically for women in perimenopause and menopause, built around an anti-inflammatory approach to eating. The ‘Pause Wellness Clinic followed in 2021, integrating medical history, nutrition, exercise, supplements, and hormone therapy into what Haver calls “The Menopause Toolkit.”
Her books trace an expanding map of women’s midlife health. The New Menopause takes a sweeping, evidence-based look at hormonal change across its full spectrum — appearance, sleep, neurological, musculoskeletal, psychological, and sexual health — and arms women with the tools to advocate for themselves. Her new book, The New Perimenopause: An Evidence-Based Guide to Surviving the Zone of Chaos and Feeling Like Yourself Again, turns to an earlier and long-ignored phase, one that often begins in the brain before it shows up anywhere else.
Haver has amassed over seven million social media followers through practical, science-backed guidance for women at every stage of the transition. She is among the most influential voices in women’s midlife health — a clinician-advocate working to change the culture of menopause care.
