Half-Sisters, Goat Men, and Good Friends: Authors Kevin O’Brien and Garth Stein in Conversation

Community Event

On Wednesday, Oct. 21st at 6:30 PM, The Book Stall is delighted to present an online Crowdcast event with authors and long-time friends Kevin O’Brien (The Bad Sister) and Garth Stein (The Cloven: Book One) discussing the writing life and their latest endeavors. There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience! This event is free, but registration is required.

Kevin O’Brien grew up on Chicago’s North Shore, the youngest of six children, attended New Trier High School, and studied Journalism at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He has written more than 20 best-selling thrillers, and his books have been translated into fourteen languages. He has served on the board of Seattle7Writers, and occasionally teaches writing classes.

Mr. O’Brien’s latest novel is The Bad Sister, the thrilling conclusion to the “Family Secrets” Saga that began with The Betrayed Wife. It’s been fifty years since the Immaculate Conception Murders. Six people were killed in a sickening spree that many have forgotten. Hannah O’Rourke and her volatile half-sister, Eden, have little in common, yet they’ve ended up at the same small college outside Chicago, sharing a bungalow with another girl. Hannah isn’t thrilled–nor can she shake the feeling that she’s being watched. Hannah and Eden’s arrival coincides with a spate of mysterious deaths. A copycat is recreating those long-ago murders.

Garth Stein is an author, filmmaker and playwright based in Seattle. His book The Art of Racing in the Rain has sold over six million copies worldwide and been produced as a stage play, children’s book, and a film. His other works include A Sudden Light, How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets, Raven Stole the Moon, and a play, Brother Jones. Garth is the cofounder of Seattle7Writers.org, a nonprofit collective of Northwest authors dedicated to fostering a passion for the written word.

Mr. Stein’s newest book is the graphic novel The Cloven: Book One. James Tucker is the most successful Genetically Modified Human Organism ever created. Conceived in a privately financed, top-secret laboratory, Tucker is a cross between a human and a goat — a Cloven. Known to his friends as “Tuck,” all he wants is to live a normal life as a university student; everything is going fine, until he shows a girl his hooves. Moody, mysterious, and atmospheric as a fever dream, The Cloven: Book One follows Tuck’s breakneck journey across the Pacific Northwest as he searches for his true home out there somewhere.
