12th Annual Community Cardboard Challenge
At Baker Demonstration School, we don’t just think outside the box, we cut the box, design the box, and play inside the box!
Family, community, play and creativity; these things are at the heart of our mission at Baker and they will all come together at our 12th Annual Baker Family Cardboard Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 19th from 1:00pm-4:00pm at Baker.
Inspired by the Global Day of Play, we come together in a day of creative play based around the perennial favorite toy of children around the world, the cardboard box. With kids in the creative lead, moms, dads, neighbors, grandparents, and friends design, cut, tape, paint, and decorate their cardboard creations. In past years we have seen a Trojan horse, trains, cars, airplanes, a time machine, dollhouses, haunted houses, cat scratching posts, robots, a giant pencil, and more!
After we build and clean up, we will take time to admire and play with all of our creations. Leftover cardboard will be shared with the middle school science program for their springtime cardboard boat regatta, so nothing goes to waste! Families will need to carefully haul (or not so carefully stuff) their creations in their cars for more hours of fun at home or kindly add to the recycling bin outside. We realize that fall is a busy time for sports and activities, so come when you can and leave when you need to.
