Excellence Through Equity
One of the most impassioned, wise voices in the American education landscape is Pedro Noguera, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Education in the Graduate School of Education and Information Sciences at UCLA. He is also the Director of the Center for the Study of School Transformation, also at UCLA. His research focuses on the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic conditions, as well as by Distinguished Professor of demographic trends in local, regional and global contexts.
For this talk, Dr. Noguera will offer a new paradigm for “excellence through equity,” one grounded in the interaction and application of three areas of research: child development, neuroscience, and environmental influences. He will distinguish between equality and equity, and lay out an argument for the essential ingredients for school improvement, including an overview of the clear guidance that students must be provided in order to succeed. Dr. Noguera will also discuss how to align discipline practices to educational goals.
