Fiona Arthurs and Ava Blalark
Positive Parenting and Social Emotional Health for the Teenage Years
For all students and especially students who identify as African American or Black.
Families United in Support of Equity and Excellence (FUSE) and the Glenbard Parent Series welcome therapist Fiona Arthurs and social work interventionist Ava Blalark in a virtual event that explores both positive parenting and the social emotional health of young people.
Fiona and Ava will discuss how caregivers can care for themselves, give to others, and create a positive, supportive, environment that allows children to grow into healthy adults. They will then examine the biology around social and emotional development and trauma, and what that looks like for teens – especially during COVID-19 – and will wrap up with the introduction of an important tool called V.A.L.U.E.D. which provides six important lessons designed to help young people manage anxiety and depression and develop the resilience needed to pursue their dreams.
Fiona Arthurs is a marriage and family therapist and the CEO and co-founder of the Carlton Center. Arthurs will address how to support school success, unlock potential and strengthen the parent-child relationship.
Ava Blalark, LCSW, is the founder and creator of Inherently Valued, LLC, the author of Valued: Things I Wish My Mom Would Have Told Me, and a school social worker at Glenbard East High School. In her clinical work she specializes in anxiety, depression, and self-esteem among other mental health issues affecting children, adolescents, and adults.
This event will be presented virtually.
