Working with High Conflict Couples and Those with Differences in Sexual Desire: An Integrative Self Psychological Approach
Couples therapy can be challenging for both novice and experienced therapists alike, but contemporary self psychology offers a wealth of concepts that make the task a bit easier. The first hour of this presentation will cover the key tenets of the presenter’s self psychology-informed integrative approach to couple therapy in general. Concepts covered in more detail in two of her published papers will be emailed to participants upon registration (or upon request for those considering registering), although reading them ahead will be optional. She will then focus on the application of these concepts to two types of couples that are often particularly challenging for therapist – high conflict couples and those struggling with differences in levels of sexual desire. Detailed clinical examples with transcripts will be included to illustrate key concepts and time will be allotted for questions and discussion.
