Celebrate Jarrett Dapier’s Brand-New Picture Book, “Mr. Watson’s Chickens”
Stop by The Book Stall anytime between 10 AM and 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 16th to meet Evanston-based author Jarrett Dapier! His new picture book, Mr. Watson’s Chickens, has already received glowing reviews. Jarrett will be installed on the sidewalk just outside the shop, and we’ll have a special surprise giveaway for every family who drops by to get a book signed. Mr. Watson’s Chickens is full of rollicking rhythms, nonsensical refrains, and too darn many chickens to count. It serves as a perfect readaloud, with illustrations are designed to be pored over again and again. We recommend this picture book for family storytime, and young readers (and listeners) ages 3 and up.
Jarrett is a longtime friend to all of us at The Book Stall, and we are delighted to celebrate with him at this free event.
We recommend this drop-by morning for all ages–from picture book loving kids to adults. Learn more about the author and his work on his website.
About Mr. Watson’s Chickens: Mr. Watson has 456 chickens in the sink, on the bed, in the bread box. When his partner, Mr. Nelson, threatens to leave, Mr. Watson takes his chickens to town to sell, But they escape! Young readers will follow Mr. Watson all around town as he gathers up his chickens. But, when they’re all rounded up, does he have the heart to sell them? Does a different fate await these chickens?
This quirky, irresistible book is full of read-aloud fun with its rollicking rhythm, familiar refrains and an ending with a touch of sweetness. It has all the makings of a classic: wia farm theme, hilarious repetition, and a familiar narrative structure that unfolds in threes. Librarians, teachers, and parents looking for a new book that feels traditional will love sharing this book with children.
