The Marriage of Words and Pictures
Join the New York Times bestselling and award-winning husband and wife collaborators, Andrea Davis Pinkney and Brian Pinkney as they ignite imagination by offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how they’ve created over 70 books for children and young adults.
Through storytelling, imagery, and theatricality, the Pinkneys impart their wisdom on what we can all do to become social justice practitioners through book selection. In this highly interactive program, the couple shares how books and reading have the power to help generations of caregivers, educators, librarians, and communities build life-long literacy habits, from the earliest ages through young adulthood.
The Pinkneys invite you into their creative studio to show what it takes to make a difference through reading, drawing, and visual literacy. Their presentation includes storytelling, imagery, drawing demonstrations, humor and music, as well as practical tools for motivating kids to embrace the joy and power of reading.
The Pinkneys will be interviewed by Jerry Pinkney, Brian’s father, who has illustrated 100+ books over his renowned, award-winning career spanning six decades.
